Potty Time, Stickers, and Mommy

Well Talmage has started the quest of mastering the potty. We got him the Elmo's Potty Time video and the Elmo Potty(he is on a bit of an Elmo kick lately). He was pretty interested in the whole idea AT FIRST, but that faded shortly. We think that we are going to wait a month or two more. We really don't know what the crap(pun) we are doing. Wish us luck, and any friendly advice would be great.

Talmage has also been on a sticker kick too....

Fun with Mommy Time....

Oh soo fun! You gotta love this. That's good that he loves stickers--they make good potty rewards. Kenzie's not into the stickers so much.
I would like to offer you some advice, but I am just figuring it out myself. I am learning though that the more I stick with it and take chances the better she does. When I put her in a diaper-if I think we are going to be gone a while without easy access to the potty--she always reverts and has a few accidents in the next day or two to follow. soo..its definitely been kind of a trial and error process for me. :)

Hi! I just finished potty training a short time ago. I was told about the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" It really is great! You reward them for staying dry more so than when they pee on the potty. You check him every 5 minutes and if he's dry he gets a sticker or m&m or skittle..anyway, they seemed to get the concept of staying dry and while it wasn't 1 day, I'd say by day 3 we were accident free. It's been months now and we rarely have accidents. My sister also did this and she had success by day 3 also. My friend who told me about the book was done on day one. We say it's because she only had one child and Mel and I had 2. :) Anyway, Goodluck!!! It's such a lovely time.

Luckily, Boston picked this up pretty fast but I was held prison in my house for 3 days. I got a sticker chart and on every 10th square, I would have a picture of Buzzlight Year, Cars, Mr. Potato head(Things that he really wanted.) I overloaded him with water and we watched Elmo's potty time and also had the book. Then off to the toilet we went with about 30 books and toys. He would sit on the toilet for about ten minutes and I would read him every book and FINALLY he peed. AFter that, he got it. We would put stickers on every time he went or even got on the toilet(For the first few times) When he got his first toy is when he really got excited about going potty. Don't know if this is advice but it worked for me. Good luck..just be CONSISTENT!!

I think what I'll probably do is tie my child to the toilet and not let them off until they do what one should do on a toilet. Even if that makes them terrified of toilets, at least they'll learn they can't get off until they do a little business. Let me know how that works out.

Bribe, bribe and bribe. THat is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I am no expert by any means, but I have done it twice and each time the only thing that worked for both of them was all the prizes and gifts and bribes we gave them. THey specifically like instant gradification like their favoeite candy or a small dollar store toy everytime they do something. It is worth every sent you spend once they are trained. We also had to make sure we were home for most of the week too, leaving where they are comfortable was always a huge set back. Good luck I hear boys are harder.
